Alessio's Nursery Reveal

Alessio's Nursery Reveal

I’m so excited to finally share Alessio’s nursery with you! His room is by far my favourite room in our condo (with the BEST natural lighting for pics ;). I started planning Alessio’s nursery last summer, and to be honest, I felt like I was a bit late in the game with the designing process. Being pregnant during a pandemic was not easy, especially when you’re a first time mom and trying to get everything organized and ready for your babies debut.

At the time, I was teaching remotely, and Guido was also working from home. Our home office which we worked out of everyday from March-June was essentially going to be Alessio’s nursery, so I had to get cracking on the design (because, TIME FLIES when you are pregnant). With both of us in there, I couldn’t really plan much, nor visualize how the nursery would look.  I was just counting down the days until Guido was back at his regular office (shhh.. don’t tell him I said that!;). The malls and baby boutiques were also closed due to the pandemic. Nursery furniture can get quite pricey, and I didn’t want to make any big purchases online without seeing/feeling the products in person, and speaking to sales associates…that’s just the type of shopper I am! When the malls had reopened, I immediately headed to Pottery Barn Kids. I chose PBK for all my furniture because they offered such a wide variety of options and styles and their products are BEAUTIFUL! Also, their products are Greenguard Gold Certified, chemical and odor free. This was something that was really important to me because you want to make sure that everything your baby breaths in on a daily basis is safe for them. Also, PBK delivery team did a fantastic job assembling all the furniture which was really nice!

While planning the nursery, I knew right away that I wanted a neutral themed nursery and something that reflected my personal style- modern, contemporary, but was also fit for a little boy. I first started looking a paint colour options. The paint colour I chose to match the style and vibe of the nursery was Benjamin Moore Divine White SW 6105. I suggest starting with your paint or wallpaper before moving on to the rest of the room.  I stuck with mainly white pieces and light wood tones. I had so many people tell me I was crazy for choosing white furniture for a baby. But, let me tell you, I’m so happy I did! White is actually super easy to clean and wipe down. Also, the furniture I choose has a smooth and glossy finish and is not grainy so liquids can’t seep into it. One of the best furniture decisions I’ve made!

So let’s talk about the crib. I can’t even begin to tell you how much time was spent looking at cribs and nursery collections in general. Let’s just say if I had a girl, the decision would have been made a lot quicker just because there is so more selection ( at least I found that anyways). Because I live in a condo, I wanted to be smart with the size and design of the furniture. During my shopping trips, I noticed the cribs for boys were mainly dark, bulky and heavy looking and I wanted the exact opposite look. A crib that was light, airy, and modern. I ended up choosing the “Sloan” acrylic crib from PBK.

I chose an acrylic crib for couple of reasons. Not only are they visually stunning, acrylic cribs make sense functionally. The acrylic makes the crib feel lighter which is perfect for smaller spaces. Another reason why I chose an acrylic crib was because it takes up less “visual space” where a traditional style crib as I mentioned earlier can have more of a bulky look (not good for a smaller room). An acrylic crib feels more open and airy and allows parents to have more visibility ( I can see Alessio at all times without even having to walk right over to the crib). Lastly, from an overall visual standpoint, acrylic cribs are so chic and stylish. I feel like they can be mixed in with other pieces of décor very nicely. The rest of the furniture (dresser, and bookshelf ) are all part of the same collection as the crib. I’ve linked all major pieces and décor that are shoppable so you can find everything.

I didn’t go too overboard in the room and stuck with essentials and cute neutral décor pieces that tied in the acrylic and gave the room some character and personality. Something I did realize in this whole planning process was how much I LOVE a statement piece of art over a crib. Artwork gives off a contemporary vibe and a not so “nursery” look. I just love the way it looks!

It had been a very long time since I decorated a room, so I had a lot of fun with the nursery. I look forward to decorating a home one day! Alessio’s room took me weeks to decide on pieces, OMG I can’t even imagine how long a home with take me!!! – I better start collecting inspo NOW! ;)
